Welcome to Florida Keys Regional Election Protection. We are a political action committee registered in Monroe County Florida gathering signatures to place a referendum on the ballot to change the way our County Commissioners are elected.
DID YOU KNOW?
While County Commissioners must LIVE in the district that they represent, the entire county votes on them.
In 2020 one of the five commissioners did not win the popular vote in their own district.
Monroe County is one of the largest counties in Florida in terms of size. Making it extremely difficult to campaign countywide.
WHY SINGLE MEMBER DISTRICTS?
More control over local community issues.
Commissioners are more directly accountable to their constituents.
Running for office would be easier and less expensive.
More people will be encouraged to seek elected office.
Residents have more opportunities to get to know their candidates.
